Workforce Development

Purpose and Scope

The purpose of the Workforce Development working team is to create and implement a strategy that aligns and coordinates stakeholders to workforce development solutions. The strategy incorporates the frameworks included in the Leading on Opportunity report, while focusing on opportunities for employers to enhance support in community and system-level environments. Efforts target students in high school and postsecondary education, with particular focus paid to disconnected youth.*

* Teenagers and young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who are neither working nor in school.

Priorities

• Launch Workforce Pathways System, defining CELC company role, and transition effort to Charlotte Works.

• Provide assessment and best practices to ensure the removal of barriers to the advancement of People of Color.

• Produce, in partnership with Charlotte Works, the City and the County, a Workforce Summit designed to remove barriers to family-sustaining careers.

• Develop a process to determine, secure and monitor commitments by CELC members to hiring of Opportunity Youth.
